Volleyball Opens Weekend with Straight-Set Loss to Wright State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Missouri State began play at Ball State's Active Ankle Challenge Friday afternoon with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-14 loss to Wright State inside Worthen Arena.
The Raiders (9-1) picked up their ninth consecutive win, while the Bears fell to 3-9.
The Bears started the match with an 8-3 run but were overtaken when Wright State scored five in a row for a 14-12 advantage. The Raiders grew their lead to as much as five at 21-16, MSU pulled to 23-22 on a block by Azyah Green and Aubrey Cheffey, but WSU put it away with a kill and one of its nine aces in the match.
Missouri State fell behind 5-1 in the second set and saw the deficit grow to 16-10 before a comeback attempt. Laynie Dake had three kills in a 6-1 run that cut the gap to 17-16, but the Raiders countered with a 4-0 run to help secure the 2-0 lead.
Wright State took advantage of 13 MSU attack errors in the final period to win by double digits despite recording only seven kills, as the Bears dropped to a .058 attack efficiency for the contest.
The Raiders hit .220 as a team and led 34-31 in kills, 42-38 in digs, 9-1 in aces and 9.5-4 in blocks.
Sarabi Worsley-Gilbert hit .316 with eight kills for the Bears, Leah Vokolek had a team-high 10 digs, and Cheffey and Green paired up for each of MSU's four blocks.
The Bears wrap up their non-conference schedule with two matches Saturday, taking on Austin Peay at 9 a.m. and Ball State at 6 p.m.
