Final Results
The Missouri State women's golf team fired a final-round 293, its best round of the tournament, and finished in a tie for second at the season-opening MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday (Sept. 10). The Bears ended the tournament with an 884 total on rounds of 294-297-293 and tied with UTEPÂ behind team champion Oral Roberts, which rallied from third place with a blistering 276 in the final round and 873 total.
Wichita State placed fourth in the 12-team field with 894, followed by Arkansas State (902), Creighton (904), Oklahoma City (913), McNeese State (916), South Dakota (921), Austin Peay (924), UMKC (928) and Drury (976).
Sophomore
Abby Cavaiani shot a one-under-par 70 Tuesday and paced the Bears, finishing third in the tournament with 74-74-70--218. Next for the Bears came freshman
Johanna Wollenhaupt, who tied for 10th in her first college tournament by carding 75-74-73--222. Sophomores
Faith Belmear and
Allison Bray tied for 17th with 224 totals; Belmear shot 73-79-72 while Bray had 72-74-78. Freshman
Taylor Towers tied for 23rd with 71-75-81--227, while junior
Bridget Schulte posted 77-75-78--230 to tie for 36th. Sophomore
Brooke Newell finished 40th after recording 75-75-78--231. Senior
Sophia Sadaro was forced to withdraw in the final round due to injury. Medalist honors went to Valeria Mendizabal of UTEP, who fired 69-75-68--212.
MSU is idle next week, but will return to action at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Burlington, Iowa, Sept. 23-24.
