LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Jordan Eickelman's goal in the 82nd minute provided Missouri State women's soccer with crucial separation in the closing moments as the Bears outlasted a late Trojan score to take the 2-1 win at Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex Sunday afternoon.
Multiple MSU shot opportunities in the second ultimately led to Eickelman's late goal, pushing the Bears (2-1) to a 2-0 advantage with eight minutes remaining.
Little Rock's Doro Greulich's goal in the 85th minute cut it the Bears' lead in half, but MSU's defense held strong in the waning minutes to survive the Trojans' late offensive push.
Anna Durnin struck first for the Bears, tallying an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to give MSU the 1-0 edge. MSU has been hot offensively in the opening minutes, scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes of all three matches.
On the defensive end, Kaitlin Maxwell hauled in four critical saves for the Bears including one in the 78th minute that kept Little Rock off the board. Seven minutes later, Eickelman found the net to double MSU's lead.
Durnin, Eickelman, and Mayleigh Oder combined for six of the Bears' eight shot attempts.
"Two road wins makes for a special weekend," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Both goals were quality finishes and today's performance showcased our depth. Our team is looking forward to playing at home on Friday."
Following an extended road stretch, the Bears host Kansas City in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 6 at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
