NCAA Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri State University has been deemed in good standing in all 17 intercollegiate sports, according to Wednesday's (May 8) annual release of the Academic Progress Rate (APR) data by the NCAA.
All of MSU's programs exceed the minimum 930 multi-year APR score with every Bears team posting at least a 941 score or better for the most-recent four-year period from 2014-15 to 2017-18.
MSU's men's golf, men's swimming and diving, softball, women's tennis and volleyball programs all posted perfect 1000 multi-year scores during the most-recent multi-year. Each of those programs earned NCAA public recognition award status, released last week, by accumulating multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all teams at the Division I level.
"We are very proud to continue a long-standing priority of meeting and exceeding the APR standards set forth by the NCAA," said Director of Athletics
Kyle Moats. "There are always situations we watch closely, but overwhelmingly, our position at Missouri State is very strong."
To be eligible to compete in the 2019-20 postseason, Division I teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR. NCAA members chose the 930 standard because that score predicts, on average, a 50 percent graduation rate for teams at that APR level. Additionally, teams must earn at least a 930 four-year APR to avoid penalties.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
In addition to its five publically-recognized programs, MSU achieved the following multi-year APR scores in its other sports during the most-recent five-year period:Â women's soccer (998), women's basketball (990), women's swimming (987), women's cross country (981), football (977), women's indoor and outdoor track (976), men's soccer (972), beach volleyball (972), baseball (968), women's golf (968) and men's basketball (941).
Nationally, the overall four-year Academic Progress Rate concluding with the 2017-18 academic year held steady at 983, the highest ever recorded. Four-year rates for football (964), men's basketball (967) and women's basketball (982) also held steady, while baseball increased by a point (976).
