Women's Golf Takes Second at Kansas City Intercollegiate

RAYTOWN, Mo. -- In its last tournament before the conference championship, the Missouri State women's golf team finished second Tuesday (Apr. 9) at the Kansas City Intercollegiate at Creekmoor Golf Club. The Bears posted a final round 303 to go with Monday's 299-297 for a 54-hole total of 899, 20 shots behind champion Oral Roberts and its 879. Wichita State placed third in the 10-team field with 902.

The Bears received top-10 finishes from senior Rachel Johnson and freshman Allison Bray, while freshman Abby Cavaiani was just outside in a tie for 11th. Johnson took fourth by shooting 71-75-75--221, while Bray was eighth with 74-74-77--225. Cavaiani carded 77-74-75--226. Sophomore Bridget Schulte posted a career-best 77-74-78--229 to tie for 14th and senior Ashley Childers had 79-78-76--233 to finish 23rd.

Junior Sophia Sadaro led a foursome of Bears competing as individuals as she tied for 34th by carding 79-78-82--239. Freshman Faith Belmear tied for 43rd with 74-85-84--243, while sophomore Niamh Lendrum posted 87-79-88--254. The highlight of Lendrum's final round was her first career hole-in-one with an 8-iron on the 120-yard seventh hole. Freshman Brooke Newell shot 80-89-89--258.

The Bears are back in action Saturday thru Tuesday (Apr. 14-16) when they'll be seeking their third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Chesterton, Ind.
