DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior
Fati Khamissi fended off Drake to secure the 4-3 win at the Roger Knapp Center, helping the Missouri State women's tennis team remain perfect in conference play.
The last time the Bears (9-7, 2-0) started MVC play 2-0 was during the 2015-16 season.
No. 3 doubles pair Khamissi and
Phoebe Boeschen continued their success this weekend, this time knocking off their opponents 6-2.
Drake (7-13, 1-1 MVC) netted it at one apiece in the second flight, but No. 1 duo
Anna Alons and
Ellie Burger earned the 6-4 decision to give the Bears the 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
For the second time this weekend, No. 6 Burger and No. 5 Boeschen won in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively. Victory was within MSU's grasp, as the Bears led 3-0 early in singles play.
The Bulldogs earned their first point in the first flight to cut the lead to two, but No. 3 Khamissi sealed MSU's second-straight MVC victory in a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
Despite Khamissi already clinching the match, Drake increased its total by two in the second and fourth flights to cap the afternoon.
