Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Memphis

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- The Missouri State women's golf team tied for ninth Tuesday (Apr. 2) at the Memphis Intercollegiate at Ridgeway Country Club. The Bears posted rounds of 299-306-301 for a 906 total over two days to tie with Arkansas State in the 14-team field.

Senior Rachel Johnson and freshman Abby Cavaiani led the way for the Bears, finishing 16th and 20th, respectively in the medalist race. The defending Missouri Valley Conference champion, Johnson carded a consistent 74-73-73--220, while Cavaiani, a strong contender for Valley Newcomer of the Year, was just behind with 76-73-73--222. Freshman Allison Bray was next for MSU as she shot 73-80-78--231, two better than senior Ashley Childers, who had 76-80-77--233. The highlight of Childers' final round was an eagle two on the 383-yard, par 4 eighth hole. Sophomore Bridget Schulte went 81-84-89--254 for MSU.

Penn State won the team title with 854, five better than Middle Tennessee at 859. Host Memphis was third (866), with Troy and Toledo rounding out the top five.

The Bears return to action next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 8-9) at the Kansas City Intercollegiate.
