Johnson Leads Bear Golfers on First Day in Memphis

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- Senior Rachel Johnson led the way for the Missouri State women's golf team Monday (Apr. 1) on the first day of the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate and the Bears are tied for eighth place in the team race through the opening 36 holes. The Anderson, Ind., native shot 74-73--147, five over par, in two trips around Ridgeway Country Club and is tied for 16th place in the individual competition.

As a team, MSU posted 299-306--605 and is in a three-way tie with Arkansas State and Central Arkansas for eighth in the 14-team field. Penn State has the 36-hole lead after firing 292-274-566, with Middle Tennessee second with 571 and host Memphis third at 578.

For the Bears, freshman Abby Cavaiani turned in a stellar performance Monday, shooting 76-73--149, which places her in a tie for 20th.  Freshman Allison Bray carded 73-80--153 and is tied for 39th, while senior Ashley Childers is tied for 57th after posting 76-80--156. Sophomore Bridget Schulte turned in 81-84--165 and is in 73rd place.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
