Missouri State men's golf coach
Neal Stafford has announced the addition of a high school standout from Canada to his team for the 2019-20 season. The latest commitment for the Bears is Eric Byun of Richmond Hill, Ontario, just outside Toronto.
Byun has compiled an impressive competitive resume midway through his senior year at Richmond Green High School, where he won the York Regional title and finished second at the Ontario provincial championship as a junior. He also won the regional his sophomore season and placed sixth at provincials.
Last fall, Byun took second at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour International Team Championship and the MJT's Ontario series, while placing third in the Golf Canada Quebec Championship. He was ranked ninth in Ontario and 19th in Canada following his junior season after winning the MJT National Championship, Innisbrook Easter Junior Championship, tying for fifth at the International Junior Masters and 38th at the Canadian Junior Championship.
"I am very excited to have Eric joining our program for the fall of 2019," said Stafford. "His focus on his goals academically and athletically has been very impressive in the recruiting process. He is a great addition to what is shaping up to be a very strong class for next season."
The Bears signed Maxwell Kreikemeier of Chesterfield, Mo., back in the fall, the third-ranked senior in Missouri according to National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
They'll open the spring campaign Feb. 23-25 at the Loyola Intercollegiate in suburban Phoenix, Ariz.
