RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- The Missouri State women's golf team endured a rough beginning to its spring season, finishing 17th Sunday (Feb. 24) at the Rio Verde Invitational at Rio Verde Country Club. The Bears shot 315-310--625 for the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes after Friday's opening round was snowed out.

Xavier rallied to capture the team title with a 591 total, three better than runnerup Seton Hall. Boise State was third with 598, followed by Western Michigan (605), Arkansas State and Bradley (606), Wichita State (609), Northern Illinois (610) and Bowling Green (612) rounding out the top half of the 18-team field.

Individually, freshman Abby Cavaiani led the way for MSU, tying for 34th after shooting 80-73--153. She was a stroke better than classmate Allison Bray, who had 73-81--154 while tying for 39th. Senior Rachel Johnson carded 81-75--156 to tie for 52nd, while senior Ashley Childers posted 81-81--162 and placed 75th. Freshman Faith Belmear shot 86-81--167 to finish 92nd. Sophomore Bridget Schulte, playing as an individual, shot 83-81--164 to tie for 81st.
