ST. LOUIS – Dominant efforts from junior
Libby Howell and sophomore
Adriana Avila in the Bears home win against Drury over the weekend earned the Missouri State women's swimming and diving duo Missouri Valley Conference swimmer and diver of the week honors, as announced by the league Tuesday.
Howell claimed three titles for the Bears in their dual against Drury, besting the fields in the 1000, 500 and 200 freestyle events to lead the way for MSU. Howell (10:17.44) posted a win in the 1000 free, narrowly edging DU's Erica Dahlgren (10:18.42), then captured the 200 free with a time of 1:53.70. Her 500 free victory provided another thrilling finish as Howell captured the win by two-tenths of a second (5:03.99).
Avila proved victorious on the 1-meter boards (246.75) and finished among the top three in the 3-meter as the Bears swept Drury in the women's diving events. This is Avila's first career diver of the week honor.
