DALLAS, TEXAS – A trio of individual victories from
Libby Howell,
Antonio Thomas, and
Anna Miller ended the Missouri State men's and women's swimming team's final day of the Southern Methodist University Invite on a high note Saturday evening at the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center.

MSU claimed third in the men's field with 659.5 points, finishing behind host SMU and Power-Five opponent LSU. On the women's side, the Bears placed sixth with a 394.5 total.

Howell and Thomas set the Bears on a winning course, sweeping the 1650 freestyle events to begin Saturday's schedule. In her second long-distance title of the meet, Howell outpaced her competition by just under 10 seconds to top the leaderboard with a 16:28.82 mark. Thomas completed the Bears' sweep, owning a first-place 15:08.55 time in the men's finals.

"I'm so proud of my team for their constant support and energy this week," said Thomas. "We had some best times, first-place finishes, and great moments of sportsmanship that'll help us grow as a team."

MSU dotted half of the 1650 freestyle A-final finishers as
Pawel Krawczyk earned third (15:20.43),
Sebastian Odent took sixth (15:45.71), and
Jonathan Hill capped the point-scorers in seventh (15:55.06).

Two events later,
Anna Miller contributed to the Bears' dominance in the freestyle portion, turning in a first-place and personal-best 49.47 time in the 100 freestyle. Her individual win signaled the Bears' sixth over the course of the three-day meet.

"I'm proud of my personal-best time in the 100 free," said Miller. "The team really came together and supported everyone who swam tonight, which makes for a great atmosphere."

Krawczyk recorded MSU's last top-five time of the invite, swimming a 1:48.92 mark that was good for a fourth-place finish in the 200 fly.
James Vaughn joined his teammate in the A-final class, garnering a sixth-place time of 1:49.20.

"This meet was a great point to see where I am this season," said Vaughn. "I am looking forward to working hard and continuing to improve as we head towards conference."

Several other Bears impressed in their respective races, seeing
Madison Brown,
Sarah Allegri,
Samuel Senn,
Arthur Cury, and
Conner Funke placed in the top-eight. Brown's seventh-place time of 2:01.45 in the 200 backstroke set a new personal-best for the junior, while Senn and Cury tied for sixth in the short-distance 100 free. Funke gathered crucial points for the Bears in the penultimate individual event, clocking in at sixth (1:58.82) in the 200 breast.

"In addition to my personal best time in the 200 backstroke, I was happy with the energy and positiveity the team brought to the meet." said Brown. "I saw many of my teammates achieve best times which is exciting as we continue the season."

MSU concluded the invite with a strong fourth-place result in the 400 free relay (2:58.55). Â

The Bears take a short hiatus before returning to Hammons Student Center Pool for a crosstown dual against Drury on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.
