The Missouri State women's golf team has received commitments for the 2020-21 season from two Springfield (Mo.) high school standouts. Head coach
Kevin Kane has announced the addition of Kayla Pfitzner of Catholic High School and Wriley Hiebert of Glendale to the Bears' program for next season.
Pfitzner is a two-time Missouri Class 1 state champion and helped lead the Irish to the team title last month and a runner-up finish in 2018. She also placed seventh at state as a sophomore and won the district title three times. This past summer, she finished in the top 15 at both the Missouri and Kansas Amateurs and 18th at the Prairie Invitational.
Hiebert is ranked fourth in Missouri among seniors according to
National Junior Golf Scoreboard. She placed 11th at the Class 2 state tournament this past season after winning her conference and district titles and placing second at sectionals. She also was the district and sectional champion as a junior for the Falcons.
"We're really excited to add a pair of local players of this caliber," Kane said. "Kayla is a great competitor...a real grinder and fighter on the course. Her game has really taken off in the last year or so and she knows how to compete and how to win. And Wriley is just scratching the surface of what she can be. She's improving quickly and competing at a higher level. She has a lot of ability and potential. Just as importantly, they're good students and people, the type of people we want in our program."
The Bears completed the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 29 at the Little Rock Classic and will open the spring campaign Feb. 21-23 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona.
