SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State jumped out to a 17-0 lead over visiting Southwest Baptist Friday evening at JQH Arena and had seven different players score at least eight points on the way to a 92-49 exhibition victory.
Sophomore
Jasmine Franklin collected a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 5-for-7 to finish the exhibition season 15-for-17 from the floor.
Alexa Willard added 15 points and five assists,
Brice Calip had 10 points and five helpers, and
Abby Hipp grabbed 11 rebounds to go with nine points.
After scoring in the first three seconds and leading 21-0 in their first exhibition game, the Lady Bears nearly duplicated that effort against the Bearcats, scoring four seconds after the tip and jumping ahead 17-0 before an SBU free throw with 3:24 left in the first period.
Missouri State held the visitors without a field goal for more than eight minutes to start, led 24-4 after a quarter and 46-6 with 3:24 remaining until halftime.
The Lady Bears finished the third quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 70-28 and made their last six field goal attempts of the contest for the final 43-point margin.
Emily Gartner had eight points and nine boards for MSU while
Shameka Ealy scored nine and
Sydney Wilson added eight for the balanced attack that shot 34-for-71 overall with 22 assists.
Missouri State owned a 56-27 rebounding lead, with 25 boards coming on the offensive glass, turned 22 SBU turnovers into 29 points, and scored 52 points in the paint.
Missouri State begins regular season play at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 23rd-ranked Minnesota.
