The Missouri State men's golf team is in fourth place and in contention after 36 holes at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Dickson, Tenn. The Bears opened with a 289 team score in Monday's (Oct. 14) morning round, but then fired a 10-under-par 278 in the afternoon, the best round of the day, to give them 567 after 36 holes, just six shots out of the lead.
UT Martin leads entering the final round after posting 561, three better than host Austin Peay and its 564. SIUE is third with 565, then the Bears, followed by Belmont 569, Murray State 579, Tennessee Tech 586, Eastern Illinois 588, Evansville 604, Tennessee State 607 and North Dakota 615.
Individually, freshman
Max Kreikemeier paced MSU and sits just two strokes off the lead after finishing the day with a six-under-par 66 at Greystone Golf Club after an even-par 72 in the morning for a 138 total, placing him third behind Jack Story of UT Martin and Michael Busse of Austin Peay, who are at 136 and 137, respectively.
Junior
Crimson Callahan is tied for 16th after shooting 73-70--143, with senior
Lukas McCalla just behind at 145 after posting 73-72, and junior Chris Obert just one more back after carding 76-70--146. Freshman
Eric Byun shot 71-78--149 and is tied for 43rd. Freshman
Austin Gillund, playing as an individual, is tied for 39 with 72-76--148.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
