Webster Signs with G League Squad in Austin
October 14, 2019 | Men's Basketball
AUSTIN, Texas – Former Missouri State men's basketball standout Josh Webster has reached an agreement to play with the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League this season.
Â
Webster, who earned a spot on the Missouri Valley All-Newcomer Team for the Bears in 2018-19, will play for Missouri State legend Blake Ahearn, the current head coach of the Austin squad.
Â
"I am truly blessed and grateful for this opportunity to be a part of the Spurs organization," said Webster. "I look forward to starting the next chapter in my life with a great organization. It's very exciting, and I can't wait to get started.
Â
The St. Louis native started 31 of 32 games for Missouri State his senior season and averaged 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and a Valley-best 5.1 assists per game. Webster also led the MVC in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.04) in his only season in Springfield and led the Bears in assists 27 times.
Â
He also became the first Missouri State player to participate in the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships when he finished seventh in the dunk competition at the 2019 event in Minneapolis.
Â
Ironically, this will be Webster's third Texas-based team, having played the 2017-18 college season at Texas Tech and the 2016-17 season at South Plains College before coming to Missouri State as a graduate transfer a year ago.
Â
The Spurs, formerly known as the Austin Toros, open their season on Nov. 8 Â
