St. LOUIS -- Missouri State freshman forward Jasmine Franklin was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week in women's basketball Monday after posting a pair of double-doubles in two MSU wins over the weekend.

Franklin began MVC play with career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds on Friday against Indiana State, shooting 8-for-10 from the field, including eight consecutive makes. Sunday, the Fayetteville, Ark., native had 10 points, 10 boards and three blocks in just 17 minutes of action against Evansville.

The rookie averaged 13.5 points on 67 percent shooting, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks to help the Lady Bears extend their winning streak to five games with a 2-0 MVC start. Franklin currently ranks second in the MVC with a .582 field goal percentage, which is on pace to rank eighth in school history and first among freshmen.
