ORLANDO, Fla. – Missouri State's Cheerleaders and Sugar Bears performed well at the 2019 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships held here January 18-20.
 
The Sugar Bears competed in three events, placing sixth in their first-ever appearance in the Division I Game Day competition, along with team mascot Boomer. They also finished 10th out of 21 squads in the Division I Jazz category, advancing to a highly-competitive final round that was ultimately won by Utah Valley.

The Sugar Bears also competed in the Division I Pom flight, but did not advance to the finals, finishing in ninth place in the semifinals.
 
The MSU Cheerleaders also competed in the UCA Nationals. They finished in fifth place after a solid semifinal performance, but did not advance to the three-team finals. Morehead State defended its cheer crown for the fourth straight year.
 
"About half of our cheer and dance teams are newcomers, so we are so proud of their hard work and dedication," said Susan Brown, Missouri State's coordinator of spirit squads. "Both squads represented Missouri State well."

The prestigious competition, which showcases the country's best college cheerleaders, dance team performers and mascots, is in its 36th year.
