Day One Results

The Missouri State men's golf team is in contention with one round to play at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Bears shot 280-285--565, three under par, in the tournament's first two rounds Monday (Sept. 17) at the par 71, 6902-yard Hattiesburg Country Club. They're tied for third place as just two strokes separate the top four teams entering Tuesday's final round.

Mercer leads after 36 holes with a 563 total, a shot ahead of host Southern Mississippi and two better than MSU and Troy. Florida Gulf Coast is fifth at 570, with Samford (571), Bowling Green State (574), Stephen F. Austin (577), Central Arkansas (580) and Winthrop (581) rounding out the top 10 in the 13-team field.

The Bears are led by their foursome of seniors, with Jack Knoesel topping the list after firing 69-71--140 and sitting in a tie for eighth place. Defending champion Brad Carpenter is next in 15th after carding 71-71--142, with Kory Franks tied for 25th after shooting 73-71--144. Adam Fisher opened with a four-under-par 67 in the morning round, but stumbled to a 79 in the afternoon and is tied for 37th at 146. Lukas McCalla shot 80-72--152 and is tied for 63rd. Freshman Carter Lee posted 72-74--146 and is tied for 37th while playing as an individual.
