
Women's Soccer Falls to Central Arkansas

SPRINGFIELD – Despite a number of close shots, the Missouri State women's soccer team (3-2) came up short against Central Arkansas (2-1-1), 2-0, Sunday afternoon.
The Bears tripled Central Arkansas in shots during the opening half, but goalkeeper Lauren Mercuri battled in the cage with four saves to keep the Bears off the board.
Central Arkansas broke through at the 37-minute mark as Savannah Tidd dribbled pass up to the middle of the box and slipped it past the Bears for the first goal of the game. They would keep the 1-0 advantage heading into intermission.
Coming out of halftime, Central Arkansas tacked on another score at the 47-minute mark from Connie Awuku-Darkoh to clinch the win.
Missouri State continued to fight offensively during the second period, nearly matching their opening half shot count.
Although the Bears held the shots on goal advantage with six chances, compared to Central Arkansas' four, nothing fell in the Bears' favor.
Jordan Eickelman led the Bears with four shots, while Brooke Prondzinski and Kayleigh Putnam each settled for three apiece. Nine Bears would strike for a total of 18 shots, nearly triple the amount of attempts from Central Arkansas.
Missouri State will continue its home stretch Wednesday, Aug. 29 against Louisiana Tech beginning at 7 p.m. at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
