Missouri State's
Kory Franks is on his way to iconic Pebble Beach for the United States Amateur after qualifying last week in St. Louis. The Bears' senior-to-be from Jefferson City, Mo., fired 71-67--138 on July 23 at Westwood Country Club to earn a spot in the nation's top men's amateur event.
Franks' four-under-par total placed him fourth in the field of 117 players and punched his ticket to California for the event, to be held Aug. 13-19 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Both courses are perennially ranked among the top courses in the world, with Pebble Beach having hosted multiple U.S. Opens and set to again host the national open next June. Both also serve as host venues for the annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the PGA Tour.
Franks posted a pair of top-10 finishes last season for the Bears and tied for 11th at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. He finished fourth in the league in scoring average with a 73.06 mark and also earned a spot on the Valley All-Academic Team and the recently announced All-American Scholar Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
