SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State University has announced the recent hire of three new staff members in Intercollegiate Athletics, Director of Athletics
Kyle Moats announced Tuesday.
Christine McCartney will join the staff of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Academic Achievement Center as an academic counselor,
Adam Mulvey will serve as the department's new equipment manager, and
Tyler Watson is the new assistant strength and conditioning coach working with the sport of basketball.
McCartney, a native of Arlington, Texas, was a four-year standout for the Bears' volleyball team from 2010-13. As an outside hitter, she accumulated 1,077 kills in her career, good for 17th in school history, and ranks 10th at Missouri State with 3,151 career attacks. She earned Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2010, and helped the Bears to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during her playing career. She graduated from MSU with a Finance degree in 2014, and recently earned her Master's in Sports Management in May 2018. McCartney served as a graduate assistant in the Academic Achievement Center for the last year-and-a-half and later served as a volunteer coach for the MSU beach volleyball squad in its inaugural season.
Mulvey, from Green Bay, Wis., has served as equipment manager at University of Wisconsin – Stout since 2014. He primarily worked with the sport of football in that capacity and handled all aspects of the program's equipment procurement, inventory and distribution. His professional experience has also seen Mulvey serve a stint with the New York Jets training camp in 2017. He is a member of Athletic Equipment Manager's Association (AEMA) and recently completed his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Wisconsin-Stout in May of 2018 with an emphasis in supply chain management.
Watson comes to Missouri State after serving the last two-and-a-half years as head strength and condition coach at Elon University in North Carolina. In that capacity, he also worked directly with men's and women's basketball, in addition to volleyball and women's lacrosse. He previously served as assistant strength and conditioning coach at both Tennessee State and Clemson University in 2015. He holds a number of professional credentials, including USAW Level I sports performance certification, and has served internships at Southern Miss, Vanderbilt and with the Buffalo Bills. Watson earned his undergraduate degree from UT Chattanooga in Exercise Science in 2014.
All MSU hires are contingent upon final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors.
