Missouri State Programs in Good APR Standing

May 23, 2018

NCAA Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri State University has been deemed in good standing in all 17 intercollegiate sports, according to Wednesday's (May 23) annual relase of the Academic Progress Rate (APR) data by the NCAA.

All of MSU's programs exceed the minimum 930 multi-year APR score with every Bears team posting at least a 965 score or better for the most-recent four-year period from 2013-14 to 2016-17.

MSU's men's golf, men's swimming and diving, softball, women's tennis and volleyball programs all posteed perfect 1000 multi-year scores during the most-recent multi-year. Each of those programs earned NCAA public recognition award status, released on May 16, by accumulating multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all teams at the Division I level.

To be eligible to compete in the 2018-19 postseason, Division I teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR. NCAA members chose the 930 standard because that score predicts, on average, a 50 percent graduation rate for teams at that APR level. Additionally, teams must earn at least a 930 four-year APR to avoid penalties.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

In addition to its five publically-recognized programs, MSU achieved the following multi-year APR scores in its other sports during the most-recent five-year period:  women's swimming and diving (994), women's track and field (983), women's soccer (989), field hockey (988), baseball (986), women's basketball (985), men's soccer (983), women's cross country (982), football (974), women's golf (968) and men's basketball (965).

Nationally, Division I student-athletes continue to succeed in the classroom, confirmed by a 2-point increase in the Academic Progress Rate to 983. Four-year rates for Division I baseball, football and women's basketball each increased 2 points to 975, 964 and 982, respectively. Men's basketball players raised their overall, four-year APR by a point, to 967.
