Carpenter Leads Way for Bears on First Day at ASU

JONESBORO, Ark. -- The Missouri State men's golf team is tied for eighth place after 36 holes at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at RidgePointe Country Club. The Bears were slow out of the gate Monday (Apr. 2), shooting 299 in the morning round, but rebounded with 286 in the afternoon for a 585 total that has them tied with Belmont entering the final round Tuesday.

Junior Brad Carpenter paced MSU on the day, carding 72-71--143, one under par on the 6,685-yard layout and in a tie for 15th place. Junior Adam Fisher is next for MSU after posting 76-70--146, tied for 25th with teammate Lukas McCalla, who shot 75-71. Junior Kory Franks is tied for 40th after shooting 76-74--150, and senior Brian Rogers is tied for 62nd with 78-78--156. Matthew Cole of Arkansas State and Peyton Wilhoit of Southern Illinois are tied for first at 137.

Host Arkansas State is running away with the team championship after blistering RidgePointe with 273-276--549. The Red Wolves "B" team is second with 565, with UT Martin (575), Oral Roberts (576) and Austin Peay (579) rounding out the top five. Southern Illinois is sixth (583), followed by UT Arlington (584), the Bears and Belmont, Southeastern Louisiana (593), Florida Atlantic (599), Omaha (602), Samford (605) and Eastern Illinois (610).
