Kiss, Pavel and Sander Named to MVC 25-Year Team

February 08, 2018

ST. LOUIS – Celebrating 25 years of women's sports in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 45th anniversary of Title IX, Missouri State swimming and diving alumnae Dora Kiss, Lauren Pavel and Renata Sander were honored on the MVC Swimming and Diving 25-Year Anniversary Team, announced by the league Thursday.

Team composition for each sport has been determined by a 25-person committee (two representatives from each MVC institution and a panel of five voters from the Conference office). The team composition includes years in which league teams competed under the MVC umbrella during the past 25 years (1992-2017) and does not include competition from the current season.  The voting panel determined a 'Top 10' from a list of 25 finalists.

A two-time MVC Swimmer of the Year, Kiss (2013-16) holds the league record in the 500-yard freestyle and 200 butterfly. Her incredible success in the pool earned her All-Conference for four straight seasons, as well as three MVC Scholar-Athlete Team nods. During her time at Missouri State, Kiss earned 10 MVC Championship titles – four straight titles in the 500 free and 200 fly, as well as one in the 200 free and 400 IM. She was also a two-time champion in the Bears' championship 400 medley relay squad. Kiss currently holds the Missouri State record in the 200 and 500 freestyle, as well as the 200 fly.

Named to the All-MVC First Team from 2014-2017 seasons, Pavel earned six championship titles and two MVC Swimmer of the Year honors. She claimed two league titles in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. She helped the Bears' 200 medley relay squad to a championship title in 2017 and served as the second leg in the Bears' champion 400 medley relay squad as a sophomore junior and senior. Pavel holds the league and school record in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM.

Racking up three MVC Swimmer of the Year awards, Sander is another four-time All-Conference selection for the Bears. Swimming from 2011 to 2014, she complied eight MVC Championship titles during her time as a Bear. Sander earned three league titles in the 100 breast and 200 breast, two crowns in the 200 IM, as well as four titles in the Bears' 200 and 400 medley relays. Sander ranks second in program history in the 100 and 200 breast, and sits fourth all-time in the 200 IM.

Other members of the 10-person team include Southern Illinois' Emily Gable, Kirsten Groome, Julie Ju and Sherry Zhang. Krystal Featherson and Wenting Zhang represented the Illinois State Redbirds and Evansville's Kim Dodson rounded out the pack.

Eight different programs (including affiliate members) have sponsored swimming and diving in the Missouri Valley Conference during the past 25 years, including; Bradley (1994-2002); Evansville (1994-present); Illinois State (1992-present); Indiana State (2016-present); Missouri State (1998-present); Northern Iowa (1992-present); Southern Illinois (1992-present); and affiliate Arkansas-Little Rock (2013-present).
