EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Missouri State men's soccer team dropped a rollercoaster of a semifinal match to Central Arkansas, 5-4 in penalty kicks, at the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Friday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Scoring between the two squads went back and forth, with the end of regulation seeing both Bears teams locked at two goals apiece.
Ben Stroud opened up the scoring in the 18-minuite, with a header deflected off a free kick, putting the Bears up 1-0.
UCA followed that up with a penalty kick conversion by Niklas Brodacki right before halftime.
Coming out of the break,
Stuart Wilkin converted on a serve from
Jake Buckle that went just underneath the UCA goalie to put the Bears up a score.
Central Arkansas would come back to score off a free kick, netted in by Daltyn Knutson.
With the score tied 2-2 the match would turn to overtime, where Missouri State could not convert on multiple good looks, sending the game into penalty kicks.
Both teams would convert four of their first five attempts. UCA would make its sixth attempt with Soren Jensen finding the net. MSU could not hit its sixth attempt, taken by
Kyle Hiebert, lousing PKs 5-4.
Missouri State finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 9-2-6.
