
Volleyball Sweeps Loyola on Senior Night

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State completed its volleyball regular season Saturday with a dominating 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-13) victory over Loyola at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears (17-14, 10-8 Missouri Valley Conference) clinched their 20th consecutive winning season both overall and in conference play, earning the fifth seed in next week's MVC Tournament in Springfield. MSU will face No. 4 Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Night at Hammons.
Missouri State hit .347 in the match compared to .116 for the Ramblers, finishing with leads of 47-28 in kills, 43-29 in digs and 6-3 in aces.
The Bears closed the first set on a 5-0 run after chasing down LUC for most of the period. It was tied nine times to 11-all before Loyola pushed its lead to three points on four separate occasions, the last at 23-20. Chloe Rear and Laynie Dake teamed for the tying block, Dake followed with a kill, and Natali Petrova scored another for the win on the way to a career-high nine winners on .500 hitting.
Missouri State built a 14-5 lead on Makina Wratten's kill in the second set, but Loyola closed the gap to three points at 20-17. Alyssa Doucette and Aubrey Cheffey countered with kills to stop the rally, and the Bears hit .448 with 16 kills in the period.
The Bears held Loyola (16-14, 8-10) to six kills in the third set, growing the lead to as many as 14 points on the way to completing Melissa Stokes's 299th career MVC victory.
Senior Cambree Villarreal led all players with 12 kills on .312 hitting, and Cheffey hit .350 with 10 kills. With 12 digs, Butters moved to 20th in NCAA history with 2,450 in her career, and jumped to 10th in consecutive sets played at 508. Rear handed out 39 assists, and Wratten added four blocks.
