MVC Release
SPRINGFIELD – Junior
Kyle Hiebert and sophomore
Michael Creek represent the Missouri State men's soccer squad on the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer scholar-athlete first team, as announced by the league on Wednesday (Nov. 14).
Hiebert, a two time MVC scholar-athlete, led the Bears to another impressive defensive season. The anchor of the Bears strong defensive line has started in all 17 matches for Missouri State, playing in all but 45 of the available minutes. The La Salle, Manitoba, Canada native has been key in the Bears' defense, recording a .703 goals-against-average, which is the 17 lowest GAA in the nation. The team captain also adds an assist and nine shot attempts. The junior has maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA in accounting.
Creek has held up remarkable numbers, allowing only 13 goals in his rookie campaign. Starting all but one game this season, the St. Louis, Mo., native has logged six shutouts in 16 matches. Creek also recorded 46 saves, and holds a .75 goals-against-average, which is second in the league. The sophomore maintains a 3.99 cumulative GPA in accounting.
The criteria for the all-MVC honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or played in the league tournament.
