Artur Osvath had Missouri State's lone individual victory of the meet in the 100 butterfly (48.66). He would also grab the second-place spot in the 100 breaststroke (55.7) and was part of a pair of third place team finishes in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays that included teammates Blair Bish, Lucas Paloschi, Thomas Heye, and Samuel Senn.

"We came into this meet after a tough week of training and still performed well," said Osvath. "I think we are in a good spot entering a tough stretch of meets."

Paloschi and Antonio Thomas earned top-five finishes in 50 freestyle (21.08) and the 500 freestyle (4:34.24), respectively.

Reigning MVC Freshman of the Year Libby Howell garnered two individual runner-up titles for the women in the 200 freestyle (1:51.12) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.46).

"I thought the team came together very well and had some really nice swims especially for the first meet of the season," said Howell. "There was a great team atmosphere and the enthusiasm for every swim made me proud to be a bear."

The Bears finished the meet with 19 top-10 finishes. Anna Miller and Loretta Stelnicki placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 and 100 freestyle

Captain Brianna McCullough finished in the top-10 twice in her respective events.

"I'm really happy with how the team kicked off the season after a tough couple weeks of training," said McCullough. "There's always a lot of energy in the first meet, and I'm excited to keep the momentum going into the season."

Diving saw success with Ashley Yarbrough, Michael Claunch, Dayana Poppa, and Trevor Fischer each having a top-five placement in their events.

The Bears will return to action next weekend with the women facing Kansas and the men taking on South Dakota in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, Oct. 12 – Saturday, Oct. 13.
