Swimming and Diving Starts Strong in Day One of Double Duel

Lawrence, Kan. – Sporting a top-three finish in all but one event, the Missouri State swimming and diving team prevailed on day one of its double duel against South Dakota and Kansas Friday evening at Robinson Natatorium.

Missouri State earned 12 first-place finishes, nine for the men and three for the women, and had 32 in the top-three standings. At the completion of day one the men were ahead of South Dakota, 123-44. The women were split, beating South Dakota, 121-64, and trailing Kansas 118-66.

In the team events, the men claimed two first-place rankings in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle. The women finished third in both events.

Seven men garnered individual victories in today's events. Artur Osvath was the top performer, winning the 200 butterfly (1:48.37) and 200 IM (1:51.47). He was also part of the 200 medley team win along with Thomas Heye, Blair Bish, and Samuel Senn.

The men swept the top three places in the 1000 free, 100 back, and 50 free with Antonio Thomas, Bryce Blattner, and Lucas Paloschi finding the wall first. Bish claimed his lone individual win in the 100 breast (56.58) and Michael Claunch rounded out the victors with his first 3-meter diving win at Kansas (299.95).

On the women's side, Libby Howell and Josie Pearson found success in day one with each notching an individual win. Howell recorded the best time in the 1000 freestyle (10:15.91) and placed among the top three in the 200 free (1:52.49). Pearson notched a first-place win in the 200 butterfly (2:05.30) and found her way into the top-two for the 200 IM (2:07.44).

On the diving board, Ashley Yarbrough replicated her success from last year with her second consecutive top finish in 1-meter diving (258.80).

Anna Miller (50 free), Sarah Allegri (100 back), and Haley Allen (200 butterfly) also impressed, logging a top three finish in their respective events.
