SPRINGFIELD– The Missouri State women's tennis team collected a 7-0 victory over SIUE at Cooper Tennis Courts to open the 2018 season on Sunday.
MSU (1-0) swept through doubles action in approximately 25 minutes. Sophomores
Taylor Gray and
Alexia Meyer collected the Bears first victory of the day with a 6-1 victory over SIUE's Anna Talley and Angel Ikeda at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Alye Darter and freshman
Ellie Burger quickly followed suit, with a 6-1 victory over Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper at No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, junior
Fati Khamissi at No. 4 singles, senior
Abbey Belote at No. 5 singles and Meyer at No. 6 singles all picked up straight set, 6-0, 6-0 victories over their SIUE opponents.
At No. 1 singles, Darter tallied a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tupper while junior
Phoebe Boeschen collected a 6-4, 6-3 win over Raillane Kamden at No. 3 singles.
Senior
Anelisse Torrico Moreno came out victorious in a tough No. 2 singles match, defeating SIUE's Link 7-5, 6-4, to seal the sweep for the Bears.
Missouri State is back in action on Friday, Feb. 2, when they take on Omaha at 2 p.m., at Miracle Hill Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb.
