SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State women's cross country team is set to continue the 2017 season Saturday morning with the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by University of Arkansas. The five-kilometer race will take place on the University of Arkansas Agricultural Farms in Fayetteville, Ark.

MSU is expected to be one of around 80 college teams entered in the meet, which includes open runs for high school and college races as well. The women's collegiate 5K race starts at 10:20 a.m.

The Bears will race 12 runners in the meet, seven competed in the same event a year ago. Last season MSU finished in 12th place among Division I entries, edging out conference foe Drake.

Two weeks ago, senior Jessica Allen turned in the second fastest 5K time in Missouri State history with a 17:06.7 time at the Missouri Southern Stampede and finished as the fastest collegiate runner. The Bears finished fourth among Division I schools with 78 points, in Joplin.

The Bears have four regular-season meets this season before hoisting the MVC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28. After the meet in Fayetteville, MSU will next travel to the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Oct. 13.
