Missouri State senior
Verena Gimmy captured her second collegiate medalist honor Tuesday (Sept. 26), shooting a final round 74 to go wire-to-wire in winning the ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Okla.
Gimmy carded 70-70-74--214 for the tournament, two-under par, to post a three-stroke win over runnerup Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State. She had previously won the Little Rock/ASU Invitational as a sophomore.
After struggling in Monday's 36 holes, the Bears rebounded in the team standings in the final round. Their 301 was the fourth-best round of the day at Meadowbrook Country Club and allowed them to move up four spots and finish 11th in the 17-team field. MSU posted 316-311-301--628 for 54 holes, just five shots from seventh place.
Lamar rallied to win after a final-round 293 and beat host Oral Roberts, 896-900. Arkansas State (906) finished third with Wichita State (911) and UTEPÂ (912) rounding out the top five.
Junior
Rachel Johnson fired a final-round 72 and finished tied for 19th with a 229 total after 81-76 the first day. Next came junior
Ashley Childers, who had 82-82-75--239 and a tie for 65th. Sophomores
Sophia Sadaro and
Ryan Pate placed 83rd and 88th, respectively. Sadaro carded 83-83-80--246, while Pate had 87-85-81--253.
The Bears are back in action Monday (Oct. 2) at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
