The Missouri State women's golf team opened the 2017 fall season Monday (Sept. 11) with its own MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield. The Bears stand in the middle of the pack after 36 holes, seventh of 15 teams with the final round still to play Tuesday.

MSU posted 307-305--612 in two trips around the par 71, 5984-yard layout and have just one player in the top 20 after the first day. Junior Rachel Johnson carded a pair of 75's for a 150 total, good for a tie for 17th place. Senior Verena Gimmy is tied for 23rd after shooting 76-75--151, while junior Ashley Childers had 76-78--154 and is tied 37th. Sophomore Ryan Pate posted 80-77--157 and is tied for 56th while freshman Bridget Schulte had 86-84--170 and is tied for 87th. Sophomore Sophia Sadaro, playing as an individual, is 86th after shooting 84-85--169. Senior Stine Pettersen and freshman Rike Kutschinski each had to withdraw due to injury after the first round after shooting 75 and 76, respectively.

Memphis holds a comfortable lead in the team race as the Tigers shot 293-287--580, 15 strokes better than second-place Murray State, which posted 297-298--595. UTEP is third with 600, followed by ULM (601), Wichita State (604), Drake (609), the Bears, South Dakota State (614), and South Dakota and Creighton (617) rounding out the top 10. UMKC is 11th (620), followed by Omaha (621), Oklahoma City (625), Williams Woods (629) and Drury (652).

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
