TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Missouri State got two solid pitching performances and just enough offense to secure a doubleheader sweep at Indiana State here Saturday, 1-0 and 2-1. The Bears (20-12, 8-3 MVC) allowed just three hits on the day and collected their 20
th win of the season.
Â
"Pitching and defense was the key," said Missouri State head coach
Holly Hesse. "Indiana State plays a lot of small ball, and I thought our infielders really did a great job. Their leadoff hitter (Leslie Sims) is a tough out, and we got her out all six times today.
Â
"We struggled at the plate for whatever reason, but we got the timely hit when we needed it. We got the big hit from
Bethany Sullinger the first game to put us over the top. I thought we showed good patience and pitch selection and scored just enough to win. Sometimes that's just how games go."
Â
Indiana State (16-18, 2-9 MVC) dropped its sixth game in seven tries, while the Bears moved into a tie for first place in the MVC standings.
