INDIANAPOLIS – Returning from last year's championships, sophomore
Artur Osvath's last second surge secured a heat-one victory during the men's 100-yard breaststroke at the 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, Friday morning at IU Natatorium.

Competing against student-athletes from Southern California, Auburn, Navy, Florida and Florida State, the standout tracked down leader Marlin Brutkiewicz of Navy in the last 50 yards, edging out the senior by .14 seconds for a 53.32-second victory in heat one. Osvath's time was just .01 second shy of tying his career best (53.31) as well as his own school record.

The Budapest, Hungary native entered the 100 breast prelims as the 42
nd seed and improved three spots to close out the season at No. 39 in the country. At the 2016 championship meet, the then-freshman earned the top time in his heat as well, touching the wall in 53.75 seconds.

Antonio Thomas will compete in their main events. Osvath will begin with the 200 breast, followed by Thomas in the 1650 freestyle. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. (CT), followed by finals sessions slated for 5 p.m.
