Weissman Receives State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award

ST. LOUIS – One of ten honorees in the Missouri Valley Conference, senior Brandon Weismann of the Missouri State men's swimming and diving team was awarded with the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award, announced Wednesday by league Commissioner Doug Elgin.

A four-year member of the men's squad, Weissman set numerous personal records in his final season – helping the Bears earn a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Chesterfield, Mo., native has racked up multiple academic honors including three and a half year stints on the Missouri State Dean's List as well as the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Carrying a 4.0 GPA in the Accounting/Accelerated Masters of Accounting program, Weissman has received the Board of Governors Scholarship each semester and was named a Marron and White Scholar-Athlete from 2014-2016. The senior picked up several MAC honors during his career, earning Academic All-MAC Team, MAC Honor Roll and MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors as well as the MAC Commissioner's Award in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Weismann is very active in the community. Showing just as much commitment to his constituents, he has performed community service at the St. Louis Area Food Bank, Ozarks Food Harvest, Accounting Tutor Lab at MSU, Adopt-A-Street, Boys and Girls Club, Adopt-A-Family, Project Linus, Girls on the Run 5K, Bass Pro Marathon and American Red Cross Holidays for Heroes.

The MVC created the award in an effort to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes. In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.  The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees.  Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
