INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri State went the distance with Butler Friday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to the Bulldogs at the Butler Tennis Bubble in Indianapolis.
The Bears (2-3) got a pair of wins from sophomore
Fati Khamissi, who won her No. 3 singles match over Butler's (2-6) Kailey Eaton by a 6-1, 6-2 final, and teamed with
Ekaterina Donetskova for a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.
"This was a really tough one to lose," said head coach
Mallory Weber. "We had opportunities both in singles and doubles, and there were some definite bright spots with both freshmen coming through in singles and Fati taking care of her spot in both singles and doubles. We are ready to have a quick turnaround and get out there tomorrow."
As Weber noted, freshmen
Alye Darter and
Alexia Meyer were both victorious in singles play, with Darter claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win in her first match at the No. 2 spot, and Meyer earning a 6-4, 6-3 triumph in the No. 4 match.
Butler took the doubles point with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 match, and broke the 3-3 tie for the match win with a narrow 6-4 win in the second set at No. 6 singles.
MSU takes on IUPUI at 2 p.m. Saturday before opening a four-match home stand Feb. 17 versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
