CLEVELAND – After an exceptional weekend at the Purdue Invitational, junior
Blair Bish earned his first weekly award with the Missouri State swimming and diving team and was named the Mid-American Conference swimmer of the week, announced by the league Wednesday.
Â
Facing off against No. 1 Indiana, No. 3 Florida, No. 24 Virginia Tech and Purdue – who received 13 votes in the CSCAA Coaches Poll – Bish sealed his name in the MSU record books in two separate events. Bish set the standard in the 100 breast, where he posted the Bears' fastest swim of the season. Bish recorded the fastest time in the nation in his first-place finish in the 100 breast prelims. He improved his time later, finishing second overall in the event with a B-standard time of 52.20 seconds.
Â
After the weekend, his time in the 100 breast is new Mid-American Conference record and ranks second in the nation. A vital part of the Bear relays, Bish helped the Bears to three third-place finishes – including a record-breaking effort in the 200 medley relay. Serving as the second leg of the event, Bish and the Bears broke the school and MAC record with a speedy time of 1:26.36. The Bears' time in the 200 medley relay sits 10
