LAWRENCE, Kan. – Winning all but three events, the Missouri State swimming and diving team dominated competition on day one of its double dual against Kansas and South Dakota, Friday evening at Robinson Natatorium.

The Bears claimed 17 of 20 events and combined for an astounding 37 top-three finishes. The women claimed victory in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay while the MSU men earned the top-two finishes in both events as well. Overall, the men's squad grabbed hold of eight victories while the women boasted nine victories.

Freshman
Libby Howell and
Josie Pearson were the top performers on the women's side as they each brought in a pair of victories. Howell shined in the 200 (1:52.31) and 1000 free (10:19.63) while Pearson clinched the 200 butterfly (2:04.05) and 200 IM (2:04.25).
Sarah Allegri (100 back, 56.74),
Loretta Stelnicki (50 free, 24.33) and
Ashley Yarbrough (1-meter diving, 254.10) were the other three Bears to garner victories.

Other top finishers for the women were
Sydney Zupan,
Emma Wall and
Anna Miller, who all placed second in their respective events. The Bears claimed second and third in the 100 breast as
Vikte Labanauskaite touched the wall second in 1:05.58 and Monica took third with a time of 1:07.46.

Six men claimed individual victories while the team brought in 22 top-three finishes. The men dominated four events, sweeping the top three places in the 100 back, 100 breast, 200 IM and 1000 free.
Thomas Heye touched the wall first in the 100 back and was followed by
Conner Ripp and Will Frisbie who took second and third, respectively.

Artur Osvath,
Blair Bish and
Nicholas Theunissen finished 1-2-3 in the 100 breast, as did
Phillip Willett,
Christopher Heye and Theunissen in the 200 IM. The Bears found more success in the 1000 free –
Antonio Thomas took first in 9:25.80 while
Minki Kang and
Kevin Douglas grabbed the following two finishes.

Other top swimmers were
Lucas Paloschi and
Will Brand. Paloschi won the 50 free in 20.77 seconds – less than a second before teammate
Samuel Senn. Brand found success in the 200 free, where he touched the wall first in a time of 1:42.58.
