CHICAGO – Mary Disidore led the Missouri State women's soccer team (5-9, 1-2 MVC) with four shots in the Bears' 5-0 loss to the Loyola Ramblers, Sunday afternoon.
Senior Rachel Catrell was the first Bear to try and score against the Ramblers, getting off a shot in the seventh minute. However, her attempt missed wide of the goal. Missouri State had another scoring opportunity a minute later, but Brooke Prondzinski's header attempt off a corner kick fell into the hands of Loyola goalkeeper Radhika Patel.
The Ramblers took a 1-0 lead early in the 12th minute, when Jenna Szczesny finished a free kick past starting goalkeeper Lexi Palacio. The Bears were unable to answer during the remainder of the half, shooting the ball once more before time in the first period expired.
Loyola wasted no time coming out of the break, scoring another goal from 18-yards out to take a 2-0 lead. The Bear defense was able to hold off the Ramblers for 23 more minutes until Szczesny netted her second goal of the day to give her team a 3-0 advantage.
The Bears tried to respond as Disidore, Catrell, Brooke Zimmerman and Ashley Coonfield all registered shots, but they could not manage to find the back of the net. Loyola would go on to score two more goals within one minute of each other to secure the 5-0 win.
Palacio finished the day with four saves off nine shots on goal. With the loss, the Bears fall to 5-9 on the season and 1-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
