SPRINGFIELD – After delaying the match for 30 minutes due to weather, the Missouri State women's soccer team (2-4-2) played to a 1-1 draw with SIU Edwardsville (2-4-2) on Friday (Sept. 16) at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.

The Bears pushed the ball to start the match. Brooke Prondzinski took the first of her team-leading three shots for the Bears in the 12^th minute of the match from 20 yards out but two Cougars charged Prondzinski to block the shot. Two minutes later, Rachel Catrell connected with teammate Brooke Zimmerman, who fired into a mess of players from each squad, sending the ball just wide left of the goal.

In the 21^st minute of the match, Zimmerman crossed to Catrell down the field, who flicked the ball behind her to set up the one-on-one situation for Coonfield in the box. The freshman had an open look at the net and fired the ball past the SIUE goalkeeper to collect her second goal of the season. The freshman is now tied with teammate Molly Brewer in goals this season and second behind Brewer with four points.

SIUE's Caroline Hoefert attacked MSU's defense, taking a team-high four shots for the Cougars. In the 63^rd minute of the match, SIUE's Jorie Clawson took a free kick after the Bears were called for a foul, connecting with Hoefert who jumped up and over the MSU defenders to head in her fourth goal of the season.

Six cards were dished out in the game including a red card to SIUE's Peyton Roehnelt, who was serving as the team's goalkeeper for the match. Due to the automatic ejection, defender Sarah Olson jumped into the net and the Cougars were down a player.

In the 79^th minute of the match, SIUE put pressure on the Bears, and was able to slide a ball past MSU goalkeeper Evan Stamp, but the goal was called off due to a foul by the Cougars.

The closest look for Missouri State in overtime came in the 101^st minute of the match when Prondzinski and Zimmerman fired back-to-back shots, putting SIUE's Olson to the test in the net. The defender saved the first shot as the second shot was blocked by her teammates.

The Bears will conclude their longest homestand of the season when the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks travel to Allison South Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 18) for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
