MSU Names Cox as New Assistant Strength Coach

June 24, 2016

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State formally announced Friday the addition of Show-Me State native Brice Cox to its strength and conditioning staff. Cox will work directly with the Bears basketball program as well as the men's and women's golf teams.

Originally from Bowling Green, Mo., he has spent the last four years at Coastal Carolina University where he served as assistant speed, strength, and conditioning coach, overseeing men's basketball, men's and women's golf, and assisting with football.

"We are very excited about Brice joining our staff and sharing our goals to take our team to the next level," said Bears basketball coach Paul Lusk. "Brice is a great addition to our staff and Missouri State."

Previously, Cox served as director of athletic performance for men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball and women's tennis at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., from 2010 to 2012. He also spent one year at the University of Arkansas as assistant athletic performance coach for men's basketball and was responsible for nutrition services and assisting with day-to-day tasks for men's basketball. He also attended graduate school at the University of Arkansas.

He earned his bachelor of education from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., in 2008. At Culver-Stockton he was a member of the men's basketball and football teams before an injury cut his career short. He later took on the role as assistant coach for men's basketball at CSC.

He went on to earn his master's in education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., where he worked with five different sports during his two years as a graduate assistant. His stint at Northwestern State followed a stint at Palmyra (Mo.) High School, where he helped coach boy's basketball and directed the strength and conditioning program for the Panthers.

Cox holds certifications from United States Weightlifting and Cincinnati Sports Medicine Research and Education Foundation and Sportsmetrics in ACL injury prevention. In 2014 he received certification from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association along with certification from the Gray Institute in applied functional science.

He is the son of Jamie and Nancy Cox and has two brothers, Justin and Ryan Cox.

He will officially begin his duties at Missouri State on July 1. His hire is contingent upon final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next scheduled meeting.
