NORFOLK, Va. - A total of 10 Missouri State University swimmers and divers have been selected to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Scholar All-America Team, the organization announced Wednesday (June 22).
Bears' NCAA qualifier Artur Osvath (Budapest, Hungary) was a first-team Scholar All-America Team pick after he qualified for the Division I national meet in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. He became the ninth Missouri State swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships and the first freshman to do so in program history.
Seven more representatives from the Missouri State men's team, and two representatives from the MSU women's team, were also named as honorable mention selections. On the men's side, Kacper Cwiek (Warsaw, Poland), Miguel Davila (Ibague, Colombia), Chris Heye (Little Rock, Ark.), Uvis Kalnins (Valmiera, Latvia), Minki Kang (Little Rock, Ark.), Uldis Tazans (Riga, Latvia) and Nicholas Theunissen (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention laurels. Representing the women's team on the honorable mention list are standouts Lauren Pavel (Omaha, Neb.) and Josie Pearson (Evergreen, Colo.).
A record 853 swimmers and divers at all levels of college swimming achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. In addition, 218 student-athletes qualified for the U.S.A Olympic Team Trials, and another 894 students were named as honorable mention selections with at least a 3.50 GPA and a "B" time standard or regional or zone qualifying meet. An additional 135 students in the honorable mention category will be competing at the Olympic trials.
