Series History
With its 85-66 win at JQH Arena on Dec. 16, 2015, Missouri State tied the all-time series with regional rival Oral Roberts.
In that game, senior Camyn Boone went 9-for-14 from the floor for 27 points, while classmate Dorrian Williams added 14 points and 5 assists for the Bears who shot a season-best 53.3 percent from the field. MSU jumped out to an 18-2 lead from the start and never trailed to win its third game in four tries.
The teams have split home-and-home series the last two seasons, but will play just once this year. MSU is 4-2 at home in the series, which dates back to 1981, including a 3-1 mark at JQH Arena.
Scouting ORU
Coach Scott Sutton has three starters and nine lettermen back from a 14-17 club that was 6-10 (7th) in its first season in the Summit League.
ORU is off to a 2-8 start this winter with an ultra-competitive non-conference slate. The Golden Eagles are 0-4 in true road games with four players averaging double figures in the scoring column. Leading the way is junior Albert Owens (C, Dallas, Texas) who is averaging 14.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Kris Martin (F, So., Frisco, Texas) has tallied 24 3-pointers and is averaging 12.5 points per game.
The Ten Count
- Alize Johnson (Jr., Williamsport, Pa.) is coming off his third double-double in four games and second in a row to earn MVC Newcomer of the Week laurels for the second time. He averaged 19.5 points and 12.0 rebounds last week.
- Johnson leads the MVC in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and is second in the league in FG percentage (.629).
- The last Bear to post double-doubles in back-to-back games was Jarmar Gulley (Jan. 21-25, 2014), while the last MSU newcomer to register four double-doubles in a season was Kyle Weems in his freshman campaign of 2008-09.
- Obediah Church (So., Springfield, Ill.) now ranks 11th nationally with 3.17 blocks per game, by far the top shot blocker in the MVC, and just two rejections shy of teammate Tyler McCullough for the No. 10 spot on MSU's career list.
- Dequon Miller (Sr., Charleston, W.Va.) has scored in double figures in 4 of his last 5 games and 29 times in his MSU career (40 games). The 2016 MVC Newcomer of the year has also started all 40 games of his Bears tenure.
- MSU's bench continues to be a big part of the team's success with the Bears' reserves outscoring their opponents' subs, 249-106. MSU's non-starters have outscored their opposition in every game and are averaging 31.1 points.
- Jarred Dixon (So., Kansas City, Mo.) has played 20 or more minutes in 5 of his 8 appearances off the bench this season. Dixon is averaging 8.4 points per game and is second on the team with 10 steals.
- Two MSU regulars are approaching scoring milestones with Chris Kendrix (Jr. Willard, Mo.) needing just 8 points for 600 in his career (67 games), while Dequon Miller (Sr., Charleston, W.Va.) is just 3 points from 500 (40 games).
- Ryan Kreklow (So., Columbia, Mo.) has made a 3-pointer in every game this season and 12 straight games overall.
- ORU's Kris Martin ranks 40th nationally in 3-pointers per game (3.0) and 22nd in 3-point accuracy (.490). As a team, the Golden Eagles are shooting 39.3 percent from long range, which ranks 47th among all Division I programs.
