
Young, Soler Codina Named To All-MAC Second Team

CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced members of the MAC All-Conference teams and award winners for the 2016 field hockey season on Thursday, Nov. 3, with senior Liz Young and junior Andrea Soler Codina earning second-team honors.
Eleven players were named to both the All-MAC first and second teams, voted on by all seven field hockey coaches in the league. The second-team recognition is the second of Soler Codina's career and the first for Young, who was named to the first-team last season.
Starting all 16 matches, Young finished the 2016 season tied with two other Bears with a team-leading four goals. The San Diego native took 29 shots on the year including 13 shots on goal, tallying a .130 shooting percentage. Against Central Michigan, Young recorded one of the Bears' three game-winners in the second minute of the match. The senior captain tallied two assists, earning 10 points on the season.
Soler Codina had the strongest offensive season for the Bears, leading the team with 13 points. The junior racked up four goals on the season, which tied with Bianca Mills and Young, and also led the team with five assists. She, along with Young, started all 16 matches and recorded 29 shots while taking 15 shots on goal. Soler Codina recorded four points in the Bears' victory against LIU Brooklyn on Sep. 22, tallying one goal and two assists in the match.
The Missouri State field hockey team finished the season with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-5 record in MAC play.
