
Messa Earns Sixth Consecutive MVC Weekly Honor

St. LOUIS -- Missouri State's Daniele Messa claimed her sixth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honor Monday and seventh overall this season, the league office announced.
Messa set the Bears to a .289 attack efficiency and two wins, averaging 11.43 assists, 1.14 kills, 2.57 digs and 0.86 aces per set. She served six aces on Saturday against Illinois State, the most for a Bear since 2009, adding 42 assists and 11 digs for the double-double.Â
Friday, the Bartlett, Ill., native scored a career-high five kills on .714 hitting, and dished out 38 assists as the Bears hit a season-high .398 against Indiana State.
Messa now leads the MVC with 688 total assists and an 11.28 average in league matches.
The Bears sit in sole possession of first place in the MVC with a 23-7 overall record and 14-2 league mark after winning 14 consecutive matches. MSU visits Evansville at 7 p.m. Friday and Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. Saturday, and can clinch a share of the regular season championship with one more victory.
