Bears Sweep Sycamores for 13th Straight Win

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State hit a season-high .398 and piled up 50 kills against Indiana State Friday evening in a 25-18, 25-15, 25-13 sweep of the Sycamores at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears (22-7, 13-2 Missouri Valley Conference) maintained a one-match lead in the conference standings with their 13th consecutive victory, while ISU fell to 10-17 overall and 4-11 in league play.
Lynsey Wright led the offensive charge with a .588 attack efficiency and 11 kills, Lily Johnson had a match-high 14 kills, and four other Bears had at least four kills while hitting .429 or higher.
Missouri State fell behind 9-4 in the opening set before Johnson scored two kills and a solo block during a 5-0 run for a 14-12 lead that MSU would not give up. Wright had seven kills in the set, and MSU finished with 20 as a team on .432 hitting.
The second set was tied five times early before Wright and Johnson each scored three points in a 10-0 run with Brianne Dixon at the service line to give the Bears a 16-7 advantage. Wright added two aces during an 8-1 start to the third set, and the Sycamores got no closer than 12-9 after that as Missouri State closed the match on a 7-0 run.
Missouri State doubled ISU's kill total and limited the Sycamores to a .078 attack efficiency while owning leads of 51-41 in digs, 6-5 in blocks and 5-1 in service aces.
The Bears host Illinois State (16-11, 9-6) Saturday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night for Simone House and Tatum Marshall.
