Kent State Sails Past Bears
October 09, 2016 | Field Hockey
KENT, Ohio – A hat trick by Kent State's Alison Harmatz, along with goals from four different Golden Flashes, resulted in the Missouri State field hockey team's 7-0 loss at Kent State Sunday afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Drew earned her first save of the day the second minute when the Golden Flashes kicked off the match with a shot off a penalty corner. Four shots later, Kent State scored off a pass from the right side to take a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Flashes struck again in the 21st minute when Kent State's Kortney Keller found the back of the cage off a deflected shot. Eleven minutes later, Kent state scored again off a shot from the right side to make it a 3-0 match leading into the half.
Unable to get a shot off, the Bears were outshot 14-0 in the first half of the match. Junior forward Andrea Soler Codina recorded MSU's first shot of the day in the 37th minute, but the shot flew right, just missing the cage. The only other Bear to record a shot was fellow-junior Daelynn De Mello, who was blocked on the left side.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Alison Harmatz netted her second goal of the game off a pass from the left side. The Golden Flashes went on to score two more goals before Harmatz achieved a hat trick after scoring her third goal of the match to make it 7-0.
Drew recorded seven saves in the first half and three during the second half. Senior Brynne Satre helped out the Bear defense as she recorded her second defensive save of the season off a Kent State penalty corner.
