ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State women's swimming's Lauren Pavel was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Pavel earned the conference honor for the second time this season after winning a combined three races on Saturday, Jan. 16, to help lead the Bears to a 148-114 dual victory over Truman State.

The women's swimmer made her opening appearance in the 400-yard medley relay on MSU's 'A' squad and completed the second leg in 1 minute, 5.79 seconds, more than two seconds faster than her fellow competitors. The Bears' 'A' relay eventually won in a time of 3:54.82.

Pavel's success continued in the 100 breaststroke, as the junior beat out Truman State's Ally Neumann to touch the wall in first at 1:07.95. She closed out the meet by leading a Bears 1-2-3 showing in the 200 breast by finishing in a time of 2:26.88.

The Omaha, Nebraska, native currently owns the fastest time in the MVC in the 200 breast (2:18.22), the second fastest mark in the 100 breast (1:03.62) and the sixth best time in the 200 IM (2:06.55).

Pavel was previously named MVC Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 27 following her performance at the Kansas Double Dual. It's her third time earning the award after being recognized once as a sophomore. Four other Bears - Josie Pearson, Artur Osvath, Dora Kiss and Uvis Kalnins - have been recognized as Swimmer of the Week in their respective conferences.

Missouri State finishes its dual slate this weekend by taking on crosstown rival Drury on its campus at Breech Pool at 6 p.m. Thursday, then host No. 10/19 Missouri at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Hammons Student Center.
